Last week I spoke at Clear Channel’s Ideas Seminar on behalf of The Workshop. We were taking part in a Dragon’s Den style pitching session where I presented our idea to combine big screens, public spaces and Microsoft’s Kinect technology.
You can watch my pitch in the player above. It was very nerve-wracking, partly because hey, it’s not everyday you speak in front of other agencies and a load of big brands, but also because of the unmoderated Twitterfall going on stage left.
The three speakers who took to the podium before me had all had derogatory remarks posted about their pitch during their spiel. That’s fine as it was kind of the nature of the beast, but some remarks were personal. A couple were disgraceful.
Also, the pitch was limited to six minutes with slides looping automatically at 30 second intervals. That’s pretty tough to time perfectly! So all in, it was an enjoybale but rather anxious experience.
Before you watch, I should probably explain my opening line and why it got a laugh. Pre-pitching session, one of the seminar’s guest speakers was asked about the impact of mobile and social statistics on outdoor advertising.
She responded by saying that we ought to remember:
‘We live in a bubble. There’s no one in Huddersfield [northern English town] walking round with a Smartphone.’
It was such a ridiculous thing to say that I felt I had to stick up for my northern bretheren with a little cheeky sarcasm.
Anyway, go watch.
