It’s well-known that sleep and exercise are necessary for us to function at our peak. Yet most of us don’t get enough of either (and we don’t exactly eat the healthiest diet). Do we really think we’re above the natural limitations of our bodies?

Rachelle Gardner, Literary Agent: Self-Care and Being Humble

I’ve had this quote holed up in Instapaper for ages, so having been in bed sick for the past few days, it seems rather appropriate to finally post it. Ironic, even.

I’m afraid I’m one of those writers who thinks they can do anything. Much of my novel was written between the hours of 12 and 2am and often I’d need to be in work early the following morning. And I was always fine with that. No problems.

But recently, perhaps as I’ve got older (30 last week!) and certainly because I have more commitments in life, I’ve not been able to burn the candle at both ends. More than that, I haven’t wanted to. Where once it seemed appealing, now it seems plain daft.

This change in thinking does mean I’ll have to change my writing habits though, especially as I embark on novel number two. And this quote rings about right, I’ll likely feel much better for it all round.
