Anne Enright reads ‘Fat’ by Raymond Carver
One of my favourite short stories from one of my favourite writers, Ray Carver. I remember reading Carver for the first time and it was a revelation. Economical yet beautiful. Wonderful writing.
This is a really nice reading followed by a great little crit of both Carver and the short story form. I particularly love this paragraph from the show notes:
The most we can say, perhaps, is that a short story is about a moment in life; and that, after this moment, we realise something has changed.
I don’t think I’ve heard or read a better definition.
