Since joining the curious world of writers who write about writing, I’ve been somewhat surprised by how many people seem to be blagging, not blogging.

It’s one thing to say, ‘This is what I did, it worked for me, you might like to try it too.’ But it’s another thing entirely to spout instructions and take the writerly high ground without the experience and clout to back it up. And yet it happens all the time.

Write every day else you’re a failure! Use a mind map you utter arse! And buy my new e-book that’s definitely different to all the other e-books!

Honestly, if you’re going to tell me how I should approach my writing, you’d better know what you’re doing. And no, having self-published your latest collection of short stories does not count (it really doesn’t).

My point is this: it’s very easy to write an ‘About’ page. Only take advice from writers who a) have the experience and are b) honest about it.
