This is true of most creative work, and certainly the case for writers.

We expect thoroughness and thoughtfulness from others, but often forget those virtues when the tables are turned. We’re a little busy at the moment, we say. You know, on our own stuff. 

You get out what you put in, as they say. Provide graceful feedback to other writers. Receive graceful feedback in return.
