How to sync Scrivener with any text editor (and go mobile too)
Something I wrote for Write for Your Life that you might find useful. Well, if you use Scrivener, anyway.
How CCTV can improve your productivity. This is something I recorded a couple of years ago. Here’s the theory behind it.
I found it because I was looking through my videos on Vimeo to try and find one where I liked my hair.
What? What’s wrong with that?
Volume #01 – an audiobook from Write for Your Life
Volume #01 is a digital audiobook of Write for Your Life articles published on the site in its first year. Originally good old text-based posts, you can now get the said-out-loud experience performed by the author himself. That’s me, Iain. Hello there.
I have finally got round to selling something through Write for Your Life. If you are a) a wonderful human being, and b) interested in supporting my writing, feel free to click through and find out more.
My beautiful orange typewriter, as promised
Posted on my new Tumblr site, Paperhack writer, which you should definitely follow.
“ The book is alive and well. Social media is liberating millions all over the world. And the kids of the future are going to be the brightest, most creative little sausages imaginable.”
I’m so sick of reading about all the doom and gloom that appears to hover permanently over the publishing industry.
“ I believe that you should always aim to write the best book that you possibly can, and that alone should be motivation enough to take your time and get it right. Aim high, be patient and see if you can create something that’s truly great. If what you’d prefer is a quick turnaround and to make an even quicker buck, then for me there’s something wrong. And you don’t sound like a writer that I want to read.”
Can you really write a book in seven weeks? | Write for Your Life
I did a bit of a controlled rant.
“ Once I’m writing fiction (my beloved fiction) I will cease to fret, dilly or dally. I’ll sit in my seat at my desk and I’ll write. It will come naturally. There won’t be a problem.”
Fear and hunger in Las Sheffield | Write for Your Life
There’s been so much going in my life this past year that I haven’t had much time for doing what I (believe) I do best: writing fiction. And as I embark on novel number two, I’ve somewhat found myself with the willies. So in the spirit of sharing, I thought I’d write about it. And now I have.
Launching Chat Broome
I’ve just launched a new podcast called Chat Broome, which is a silly name, but not quite as silly as Broomeshtick. I’m fine with both.
You can read the launch post over at Write for Your Life (the title links there too) for more information, or you can head straight to the site itself. You should definitely subscribe in iTunes.
One thing I forgot to mention in that launch post was that this is part of a new routine I’m trying to develop, where I get up at 6-6.30am and work on my second novel for an hour or so, then record an episode of Chat Broome.
It’s all part of a plan to try and find some extra structure to my writing. One thing I know is that I don’t want to be up until the early hours writing and then rising and in no way shining to go to work the following morning again.
That’s what I did before. It worked, eventually. But this time I want to create new working patterns, rhythms and structures. Go to bed at a normal hour. Get up early and write. It sounds simple, yeah?
I want to be more organised. I need to be more organised.
“ I’d had years of plugging away badgering people to use my songs on TV and radio. I think you just have to push and push and try not to get too disheartened. It’s always good to have two things out there being considered, so that when one gets rejected you can hope for the other one and then quickly send something else out!”
Julia Donaldson on being a bestseller and push, push, pushing | Write for Your Life
So yeah, there’s an interview with Julia Donaldson, bestselling author and she of The Gruffalo fame, up on Write for Your Life today.
